The 2026 Forces Under 40 recipient is Shelby Wiggins, recognized for her ongoing involvement and leadership across a wide range of community initiatives. A Jefferson native, Shelby grew up in the community and attended Greene County schools, and now works in the loan department at Home State Bank as the loan accounting specialist. She also serves on the Jefferson Matters Events Team, helping plan and support community events throughout the year.
Shelby has contributed her time and energy to the Bell Tower Festival steering committee, RAGBRAI efforts when it has gone through Jefferson, the Winter Festival committee, and CyHawk Tailgate activities.
She has also played a key role in organizing Home State Bank and Jefferson Matters cookbooks, supporting the annual Jefferson Matters golf tournament, and volunteering through Home State Bank initiatives.
“Shelby is the kind of person every community hopes for. She doesn’t volunteer for recognition, she shows up because she genuinely cares about people,” shared in a letter of support. Her consistent involvement reflects a strong commitment to helping Jefferson grow and thrive.
This year’s ABC Award recipients are Steve and Julie Karber, who continue to dedicate countless hours to projects that support Greene County and the Jefferson community. Their service spans the County Fair, the school district, their church, and numerous other community efforts, all rooted in their deep connection to Greene County and a genuine commitment to giving back.
Steve served on the Greene County Community School District board from 2017 to 2021, including as board president. He and Julie were part of the steering committee that helped lead efforts to plan and construct the new high school.

Together, Steve and Julie have also been heavily involved in the BOOST program since its inception, from coordinating meals prepared by Ram Restaurant students to securing sponsors, auction items, and managing event logistics.
Together, they have supported youth through 4-H, guided young people in raising fair animals, volunteered at the Greene County Fair, assisted with local food pantry efforts, and contributed to numerous community fundraisers and church activities. Julie also has been part of the pen pal program connecting local adults with fourth grade students, creating meaningful connections across generations. “Beyond their professions as a medical doctor and teacher, Steve and Julie Karber have devoted thousands of untold hours to develop and support activities that help build young people into productive, responsible adults. By creating opportunities for youth, their efforts carried an underlying message of support for the community encouraging young families to move here,” stated a letter of support.
Both awards will be presented during the annual Community Appreciation Event Sunday, April 26 at the History Boy Theater. Doors will open at 1:30 pm for time to connect and gather, with the program beginning at 2. The event will conclude around 3, followed by time to congratulate and celebrate the honorees. The Community Appreciation Event is an opportunity to recognize the volunteers, supporters, and partners who help move Jefferson forward. Jefferson Matters invites the community to attend and join in celebrating the individuals who continue to make a lasting difference.
